A violent clash broke out between BJP workers and illegal sand miners at the Darbar Danga sand ghat on the Ajay River when BJP leader Jitendra Tiwari arrived to inspect alleged illegal sand mining. As soon as Tiwari and his team reached the site, a group of sand miners rushed toward them with sticks and shovels, chanting "Go Back" slogans. The situation escalated quickly, leading to a physical altercation between the two sides.
Illegal sand mining has been ongoing in the area, with allegations that it threatens the nearby Darbar Danga drinking water project. Concerns have been raised that excessive sand extraction could destabilize the riverbed and damage infrastructure. Tiwari stated that he visited the site to assess the situation before informing the administration.
"I received information that sand was being extracted in such a way that it could damage the Darbar Danga water project. Before approaching the authorities, I wanted to inspect the situation," he said. During the confrontation, BJP workers and sand miners engaged in a heated exchange, which soon turned violent. Both groups were seen wielding sticks, and attempts to pacify the crowd were unsuccessful. Tiwari himself stepped in to break up the clash, but the tension persisted.
The unrest drew immediate police intervention, with Jamuria police arriving to disperse the crowd and restore order. Authorities confirmed that while there was some tension, the situation was brought under control. Local residents have expressed concerns over the impact of unchecked sand mining on the river and water project. Miners, however, claimed they were being targeted unfairly and that they depended on sand extraction for their livelihood.
Police officials stated that an investigation into the incident has begun to determine the cause of the confrontation and identify those involved in the violence. Despite the police intervention, no immediate arrests were made. Authorities are monitoring the situation, and further action may be taken based on the findings of the ongoing probe.
